Description	:	Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. in the Wesley Chapel Methodist church for James Melvin Sowers Tho Rev. John L. Beebout and tho Rev. Charles D. Likely conducted the rites. Mrs. Dudley Conner accompanied by Mrs. Marvin Woodflll sang "In the Garden" and "No Night There." Lynn Parker, Sherman Stonebrakor, Clinton Parker, Ellsworth Plumb, Ray Plumb and Hiram Cool acted as pall bearers. J. R. Clark and D. N. McQrew ushered. The following obituary was read: James Melvin Sowers, son of Robert and Catherine Sowers was born September 17, 1866 in Muskingum County, Ohio and passed away at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, February 8, 1953, at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 21 days. He came to Mills county with his parents in a covered wagon at the age of seven and settled near Henderson. For 71 years he lived in that vicinity, moving to Malvern in 1944. On March 4, 1897 he was united in marriage to Viola Edna Shook at Red Oak. To this union three children were born He leaves to cherish his memory his loving companion for 56 years his son, Harold Laverne and his daughter, Mrs. Ruth L Bentley, both of Emerson; seven grandchildren, Kenneth W. and Gerald L. Sowers, Dwayne, Neil, Viola and Vernelle Bentley and Melva Henderson; four great grandchildren; one sister, Anna Clark, of Woodbine; and one brother, J. E. Sowers, of Henderson; and a number of nephews and nieces and friends. One son, Waldon Iral, preceded him in death March 18, 1934. He attended the Wesley Chapel Church while living in that community. Mr. Sowers served his community a number of years as a member of the election hoard and as township trustee. He was a kind loving husband, father and grandfather and was especially kind to Kenneth and Gerald after the death of their father, Waldon. His friends and neighbors will remember him as one who was always willing to give a helping hand. Malvern Leader, February 12, 1953, page 1
