Mr. Robertson came from a family of hardy Scotch ancestry, known for their integrity, hard-working, conservative approach and longevity of life. Many of his parents and grandparents neared the century mark and several actually surpassing the 100 year span. When only a lad of 12 years, Mr. Robertson came with his parents to America, seeking adventure, opportunity, and a fortune, which was one of the lures of the New World, and in turn they pledged themselves to give to this New World a willing hand, a glad heart, and the promise to be the best possible citizens, promoting the moral, civic, community and material advancement. The family first settled at Iowa Falls, Iowa, then to Waverly, Mo., where on February 25, 1877, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Dora Webb, who has been the faithful companion, mother, and co-sharer of the pioneer life, and was with him and giving her gentle care until the very end. Four children were born to the Robertsons, three of whom survive. They are: The late George L. Robertson, who was killed in an unusual accident at his Simpson home nine years ago; Viola E. Pearce, Beloit, Kansas; Charley A. Robertson, Asherville, Kansas; and Beatrice E. Childs, of Simpson. There are six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, also one brother, John Robertson and one sister, Mrs. Kate R. Thomas, surviving. Mr. and Mrs. Robertson established their residence in Simpson in 1902, forty-one years ago. Mr. Robertson was engaged in various enterprises, the chief of which were farming, cattle feeding and handling of grains. The shrewd judgment and keen insight into these fields of endeavor coupled with hard, constant, and persistent work and good management, brought splendid returns for their diligent endeavors. Certainly it can be rightly said of Mr. Robertson, he was unusual in his ability to get things done. Not everyone who met Mr. Robertson understood his method and approach to life. What he did for others was a close guarded secret, for in these matters he detested publicity. However, he was quick, willing and glad to assist anyone in real need, and in his silent way ministered to many. Whenever any issue was involved, he would ask only one question, "What is right?" and when that point was determined nothing else mattered – he would see it through at any cost; but if it could be proven that he was in error he was quick and glad to make amends; being human, it was natural that occasionally he was mistaken but seldom did his good judgment lead him from the path of right. Mr. Robertson was a member of the Presbyterian church and interested in any and all of the moral and social reforms and with any and all who cared to cooperate with him found him eager and willing to give liberally. He will be especially missed by the companion with whom he has shared all their ventures for more than 66 years of life, by the children and grandchildren, who were his delight. Funeral services were conducted Saturday from the Glasco Methodist church, in charge of a close friend of the family, the Rev. Paul J. Vielguth, of Burlington, Kansas.
