Inquest Held Friday No Charges Were Made Against Mr. Lanoue, The Truck Driver For Concordia Ice & Cold Storage Co. George Robertson, age 56 and well known resident of this community, was killed instantly, Friday morning about 8:15 o'clock, directly in front of his home on highway US-40 North, at the north edge of Simpson. Mr. Robertson had called at the home of his father, James Robertson, early that morning and then transacted some business in Simpson. His daughter, Mrs. Hubert Anderson, and Mr. Anderson, were driving the Robertson truck, a new Ford V-8 and Mr. Robertson stepped on the right running board of the truck to ride as far north as his home. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson expected to continue on to their home one mile north of town. Mr. Anderson, who was driving the truck, stopped a few feet north of the gate to the Robertson home and Mr. Robertson walked around the front of the truck, stopping to visit a few minutes. He was standing with one foot on the left running board of his truck and both hands resting on the door when a transport truck owned and driven by N.J. Lanoue of Aurora and carrying a load of merchandise for the Concordia Ice and Cold Storage… ,collided with the left rear …… of the Robertsons truck, driving it forward a short distance and …..it over to come to rest with the wheels in the air, part of the bed on the road and the cab and engine in the ditch. The transport truck came to a stop several yards from the accident. (A hole in the newspaper caused a few words to be missing.) Mr. Anderson crawled out of the cab and assisted his wife who was badly shaken up and had suffered considerable shock, out of the wreck and brought her to town as soon as possible. She was placed under the doctor's care. Mr. Robertson's body was found almost in the center of the road, his chest and shoulders having been badly crushed and his neck broken. It is believed he was crushed by his truck when it turned over. He was dead when found. Both Mitchell and Cloud County officers were called and the case was turned over to the Cloud County Coroner. The inquest was held Saturday, and the findings of the jury did not include any felonious action on the part of Mr. Lanoue, driver of the transport truck. --- Simpson News Obituary Snatched in the prime of life, George Robertson was instantly killed Friday morning, June 22, as he was standing near his truck across from his home north of Simpson. A transfer truck struck his truck and he died without knowing what had happened. He was born at Waverly, Missouri, on April 17, 1878, to Mr. and Mrs. James Robertson. In July of 1879, the family moved to Kansas to settle at Simpson where James Robertson is and has been one of the most prominent and successful men. On March 29, 1899, George Robertson and Lilly May Pearce were joined in the bonds of matrimony and for years enjoyed an unusually happy and companionable life. Last summer, on July 15, 1933, Mrs. George Robertson passed away after a long illness and much suffering. Her husband had done everything humanly possible to lessen her suffering and in an attempt to bring her health back to her. A most loving husband and father, he is survived by three children, Gordon Robertson of Salina; Bernice Anderson of Simpson and Goldena Jones of Simpson. In addition to his children, his tragic death is mourned by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Robertson, two sisters, Mrs. Harry Pearce and Mrs. Gene Childs, both of Simpson, a brother, Charley Robertson of Simpson, and three grandchildren, George Robert jones, Simpson, and Shirley Joamia and Max Gordon Robertson, Salina. Mr. Robertson was a successful business man, rancher, and stockman, keen of mind, congenial, pleasant and honest – he was a man admired and liked by those who knew him. The entire community feels a loss in the death of such a man. Funeral services were held at his home at six-thirty o'clock Saturday evening, June 23, with Rev. Paul Veilguth and Rev. R.R. Kaiser in charge. Burial was in Glasco cemetery.
