Description	:	James Wayne Smith, son of David and Arbella Smith, was born May 16, 1875, at Edgar, Nebraska. He passed away December 26, 1956 in the Oxford hospital at the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 10 days. He was one of five children, two sisters and a brother having preceded him in death. He was born on a homestead in a log house in Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska. He grew up in that community. On August 7, 1898, he was united in marriage to Viola Collins. He passed away December 26, 1956 in the Oxford hospital at the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 10 days. He was one of five children, two sisters and a brother having preceded him in death. He was born on a homestead in a log house in Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska. He grew up in that community. On August 7, 1898, he was united in marriage to Viola Collins. They began their wedded life on a farm only one miles from where each of them was born. They resided on the farm for 20 years. To this union were born two daughters and a son. The son preceded him to death at the age of six months. The family moved to Beaver City, Nebr., in 1918, where they resided until 1933. During this time he was employed as a county engineer. In 1933 they moved to their farm near Hendley. Here they resided until 1945, when they moved to Arapahoe, where he had since made his home. Jim, as he was lovingly called by all his family and friends, was a man of integrity, unselfishness and respected by all who knew him. He was especially fond of children. Survivors include his wife, Viola; two daughters, Mrs. Clara Bryant of Indianola, NE, and Mrs. Welma Kinsman of Costilla, NM, one brother, Hiram of Lincoln, NE.; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 30, at the First Methodist church (sic) in Arapahoe.
