OBITUARY Jason Edward Matt, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Matt, died at their home near National, Monday, July 2, 1917, of bronchial pneumonia. Deceased was born October 29, 1909. Sadly afflicted since birth, the little one has made a brave fight for life, and all that medical skill and tender care and watchfulness could do was done for the little one, but of no avail, and when taken sick not quite a week before his death, his frail little body could not withstand the struggle and he returned to the one who has said, "Suffer little children to come unto me, foe such is the kingdom of Heaven." The funeral was held from the home at one o'clock, Thursday, conducted by Rev. Boseholm, of Garnavillo, interment being at the National cemetery. He is survived by his parents and two sisters, Florence and Lillian, besides numerous other relatives. [Identity of the newspaper was not preserved with the obituary. The article was sent to J. Michael Fullingim by a granddaughter of Lillian (Matt) Thiese, 22 July 2014.] DISCREPANCY Re YEAR OF BIRTH: According to the headstone record for this memorial, Jason was born in 1909, whereas in a biographical sketch written for his parents and published in a History of Clayton County in 1916, his date of birth was noted as 27 Aug 1910 (info had been placed on back of a picture). In a listing of Iowa Births and Christenings, 1857-1947, Jayson [sic] Matt's birthdate was listed as 27 Oct 1909, whereas the printed obituary identifies 29 Oct 1909.
