They had fifteen children!!!!! -------------------------- AN OLD CITIZEN GONE JEREMIAH S. SHANNON DIES AT HIS HOME IN MONROE TOWNSHIP Jeremiah S. Stone, one of the aged and most prominent citizens of Monroe township died at his home near Spring Mountain Aug. 24,1900 aged 73 years 4 months and 22 days. He had not been ill a very great while, the cause of death being catarrh of the stomach. Mr. Shannon was born in Harrison county Ohio April 2, 1827. In 1831 he came with his father's family to Coshocton county and was a resident of Clark township until 1857, when he moved with his wife and two children to Monroe township, where he resided ever since. He was united in marriage March 20, 1851 to Sophia Jane Buckmaster. To this union were born fifteen children, four of whom preceded him to the better land and eleven are left with his beloved wife to mourn his loss. Mr. Shannon joined the Presbyterian church when he was sixteen years old and was a faithful member of the same until 1865, when he united with the Spring Mountain M.E. Church, of which he was an earnest member and regular attendant until his demise. The community never had a more conscientious or upright citizen than Jeremiah Shannon. His religion was his joy and his morality his law. He sought to make his example a blessing to his children and his fellow men. His long and useful life was an unbroken chapter of Christian faith and good deeds. He was a great student of the scriptures, in which he was remarkably informed. In the church and Sunday School he was a most valuable worker, and his demise is a great loss to these and kindred organizations. Mr. Shannon was a farmer all his life and was particularly orderly and systematic in his methods of carrying on that industry. The remains were interred in Spring Mountain Cemetery Sunday after funeral services at the M E Church conducted by Rev. Curtis. Mr. Shannon had 11 children living and 24 grandchildren, all of whom were present at the funeral. Published: The Coshocton Age (Coshocton, Ohio) Friday, Aug. 31, 1900
