Description	:	Jesse Holloway was a son of Margaret (née Buck) and John Holloway, born on 5 December 1754 in Chesterfield Township, Burlington County, Province of New Jersey, where his family were members of a Quaker meeting. Read More	Jesse Holloway was a son of Margaret (née Buck) and John Holloway, born on 5 December 1754 in Chesterfield Township, Burlington County, Province of New Jersey, where his family were members of a Quaker meeting. The Holloway family moved to the vicinity of Winchester, Frederick County, Colony of Virginia, transferring in 1772 their membership from the Chesterfield Friends' Monthly Meeting to the Hopewell Monthly Meeting. Jesse Holloway and Susannah Painter were married on 12 January 1780 at the Crooked Run Monthly Meeting in Frederick County. The couple are known to have eight children; the first seven were born in Virginia. Jesse and Sarah Holloway and their children settled in Salem Township, Columbiana County, by about 1805. Jesse Holloway's brother-in-law Jacob Painter (with his wife Mary and their children) had settled in 1802 near the village of Salem in Perry Township, Columbiana County. Jesse and Sarah Holloway settled in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, by 1803, accompanying or following Sarah's brother Jacob Painter (and his family) who had settled near Salem in 1802. A Quaker meeting was established in Salem in September 1805, and Jesse Holloway was a witness to a 20 November 1805 marriage in Perry Township, Columbiana County. In 1820 and 1830, Jesse Holloway was enumerated in Salem, his household including a woman of comparable age—presumably his wife. Sarah Holloway died in 1840 at the age of 77. "—, at his residence near Salem, Columbiana county, Ohio on the 11th of the Eleventh month last, Jessie Holloway, in the 92d year of his age, a much esteemed elder of the Salem Monthly Meeting." "Jesse Holloway, son of John and Margaret Holloway of Stafford County in the Colony of Virginia, and Sarah Painter, daughter of John and Susannah Painter of the County of Frederick and Colony afforesaid; 12th day of 1st month, 1780; at Crooked Run." (Hopewell Friends History, 1734-1934, p. 270.) The Crooked Run Meeting was near Nineveh, then in Frederick County. Nineveh became part of Warren County when it was created in 1836.
