Mrs. Loftus had been sick since last October, and was bedfast for the past several weeks. Johanna Downey was born October 12, 1866, at Dubuque, Iowa, and died at her home in Jamestown, Kansas, January 29, 1943, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 17 days. She came with her parents to Kansas in 1869, the family locating at Glasco, Kansas. She resided there until her marriage to Michael Loftus, on August 19, 1890. They set up housekeeping on the farm adjoining Jamestown and lived here until after his death, which occurred April 17, 1926. Since that time she has lived in Jamestown. To this union eight children were born. One daughter, Lillian, died in 1917. The surviving children are Will, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Honora Francouer, Wichita, Kansas; John, Denver, Colorado; Frank, Kalamazoo, Michigan; Thomas; Mrs. Anna Chitty and Richard of Jamestown; also a number of grandchildren. Mrs. Loftus was one of twelve children and the following brothers and sisters also survive her: George, Willard and John Downey, of Glasco; Mrs. W.L. Murray, Jamestown; Mrs. Mary Paul, Kansas City, Kansas; and Mrs. Joe Larocque, Bradley, Ill. Mrs. Loftus was ever cheerful and unselfish, always mindful of the welfare and comfort of her family and others around her. She was a true Christian mother and always interested and sympathetic in the joys and sorrows of her family. She will be sadly missed in the community where she has lived a long and useful life. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, Rt. Rev. Msgr. John A. Duskie in charge. Music was furnished by the St. Mary's Church Choir, with Miss Mildred Clements singing "Ave Maria" as part of the service. Casket bearers were L.A. Herbin, A,A, Herbin, Nicholas Duffey, Leo Vering, W.L. Murray, Jr., and Murray Fitzgerald. Interment was made in the family lot in St. Mary's cemetery.
