Loftus Jamestown Resident Died Saturday Resident of this Vicinity since 1870, Heart Failure Cause of Death M.M. Loftus, one of the old time residents of this community, died at his home just west of Jamestown last Saturday shortly after noon. Mr. Loftus was taken seriously ill a week ago with heart trouble and made a valiant fight against the odds, there being but little hopes for his recovery from the beginning of his illness. Mr. Loftus was well and favorably known in the community having been a resident here since 1870, coming here with his parents when a small boy. Michael M. Loftus was born in Attica, New York, December 23, 1862 and died at his home near Jamestown April 17, 1926, aged 63 years, 3 months and 25 days. He moved west with his parents in 1869, locating near Junction City, Kansas, and in 1870 moved to Cloud county and located on the farm near Jamestown, where he resided until his death. He was married to Johanna Downey, at Glasco, Kansas, on August 19, 1890, to which union eight children were born: Will A., of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Will E. Franceour of Concordia; John L., Thomas E., Frank S., Mrs. J.O. Chitty, and Richard J. of Jamestown and Lillian Theresa, who died in 1917. Besides the children he leaves to mourn his loss his wife, eight grandsons and a granddaughter and other relatives, and a host of friends. The funeral was held from St. Mary's church at 10:30 a.m. April 19 and burial at St. Mary's cemetery at Jamestown.
