Death at 11 o'clock this forenoon claimed "Chris" Kroener, aged 79, of Albion, an old resident of the Logan township, and for many years justice of the peace at Melbourne. Mr. Kroener's death occurred in the county farm hospital, where he was taken following an accident on Monday, when he received a fall while visiting at the county farm. Mr. and Mrs. Kroener had driven to the farm with Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Hussey, of Albion, and while walking thru the orchard Mr. Kroener stumbled over a wire and fell, injuring himself internally. His advanced age and the shock resulting from the fall, caused him to sink steadily. John Christian Kroener was born in Germany in 1836. He came to this country in 1851, settling in Ogle county. Illinois, and in 1869 moved to Marshall county, settling in Logan township, near Melbourne, where he lived for forty years. In 1859 he was united in marriage with Miss Julia Smith, who died in 1906 at Melbourne. Four children were born to the couple, three of whom are living. One son, John Christian, Jr., died in this city Aug. 21, 1915. The other children are Mrs. W. A. Thompson, 211 West South street, Mrs. James J. Filer and George W. Kroener, of Melbourne. For about thirty years Mr. Kroener was justice of the peace at Melbourne. Soon after the death of his first wife he moved to Albion, where he was married a second timeiIn February, 1909, to Mrs. Amanda Booth, of Albion, who survives him.
