Kerr was a farmer in the Cincinnati township of Harrison County, Iowa. He had been born in Canada, Aug, 1861 and immigrated to the United States in 1890. He was a naturalized citizen. Winnie L. passed away in 1895, when she was 24 and John D was 33. Their daughter, Sadie B, was about 3 years old when Winnie died. In 1898, John D. Kerr re-married, and the 1900 Census shows the household as John D. Kerr,(38) head, farmer, born Canada Carrie V. Kerr,(26) wife, born Ohio Sadie B. Kerr, (8) daughter, born Iowa. That Census also listed the marriage year to Carrie, and mentioned the John D. and Carrie had been married 2 years. So Sadie was the daughter of John D' and his first wife, Winnie L.
