Willars was born in LaSalle County, Illinois, May 22, 1842, and died at Orange, California, August 29, 1919, being 77 years, 3 months and 7 days old. He was united in marriage to Sarah E. Forbes, Nov. 19, 1865. To this union were born seven children, three of whom have preceded him in death, one boy who died in infancy and Mrs. L.C. Keener and Mrs. H.F. Gray. He leaves a loving wife and four children to mourn his death, C.F. Willars of Glasco, Mrs. G.D. Smyth of Glasco, J.S. Willars of Delphos and Mrs. O.H. Chritton of Glasco; one brother, W.I. Willars of Long Beach, Calif., and five grandchildren. In ealy life he learned the harness makers trade and worked at it for a number of years afterward engaging in the mercantile business till 1881 in which year he moved to Kansas and purchased land 9 miles northeast of Glasco. Here he lived until about 20 years ago when he moved to Glasco, where he has since resided. He had a strong personality and made many friends. While somewhat reserved, those who knew him best knew that his heart was tender and his sympathy was always with the needy and oppressed. By hard labor and economy he amassed a reasonable amount of this world's goods. He was a loving husband and affectionate father, a good neighbor and an honest man. He believed that a God who fashioned the universe was abundantly able to take care of the future. He was a member of the IOOF lodge of Glasco. He lived his life, filled his niche, and it can truly be said that he was a success. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon. The IOOF ritualistic service was observed and Dr. Fellows preached the sermon. Interment was made in the Glasco cemetery.
