John raised and raced harness horses all his life. He got his start at home before he was married as his father, John M., was a well-known horseman. John E. had a one-half mile track on his farm, and many people would go to the Wallace farm to watch him work his trotters. He died May 28, 1953." Wallace, pioneer Weldon man, were held at the Weldon Methodist church, Monday, June 1, with Rev. William Miller of Kellerton, officiating. Burial was at Hebron cemetery with Miller Funeral service in charge. He was 80 years old. John Elmer Wallace was born in Green Bay Township, July 21, 1872, a son of John M. and Priscilla Wallace. He died in Osceola, May 28, 1953. He grew to manhood in the Hebron neighborhood and attended school at the Hebron school. On March 6, 1896, he was married to Laura Janette Wallace. One son, Forrest, was born to them. Mrs. Wallace died on November 13, 1921. He is survived by his son, Forrest and wife, and one brother, Fred, all of Weldon, and many other more distant relatives and a large circle of friends. His occupation was farming and he spent his entire life on a farm within sight of Weldon. He was a lover of nature and enjoyed tilling the soil and watching the growing crops. A lover of sports, his greatest pleasure was in the sport of light harness racing. He always took a personal interest in the welfare of his community."
