However he had not been in good health for about two years. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock at SS. Peter's and Paul's Catholic church. Rev. Father Wm. P. Hyland officiated at the requiem Mass. Six grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers. They were Joe and Francis Stejskal, Clarence and Florent Hotovec, Jerome Hronek and Kenneth Zeman. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Hotovec was born in Cihost, Austria, June 24, 1859, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hotovec. He grew to young manhood in his native land and in 1881 he came to America and located at Iowa City. On July 2, 1883, he was united in marriage with Antonette [sic] Vosika at Iowa City where they established their home. He was employed there in a paper factory for a year after their marriage. They then moved to Omaha where they resided for a year before moving to a farm near Callendar in Webster county, where they lived for 19 years. Early in 1900 they moved to a farm near Ware where they resided for 16 years and in 1918 they retired and moved to Pocahontas and have made their home here since that time. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hotovec, two of whom died in infancy. Those surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Sister M. Alonzo [Anna] of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Frank Stejskal, Mrs. Wesley Hronek and Mrs. Chas. Zeman, and four sons, Frank, Chas., Joe an Jerry all of whom reside in this vicinity. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Viktora of Pocahontas, and one brother, James Hotovec of Olivia, Minn., 31 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Hotovec was a devout member of the Catholic church and was an ardent supporter of all its activities. He was ambitious and provided well for the needs of his family, however, he was always ready to help a friend in need or assist with anything that was for the good of the community in which he lived. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Sister M. Alonzo of Cleveland; Sister M. Ludvicka of Chicago; Geo., Joe and Wesley Vavricka, Joe Vosika, Mrs. Adolph Hotovec and daughter Caroline and Albert Hotovec, all of Olivia, Minn. Transcribed by Teresa Davis
