Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon. A brief service is announced for 1:30 at the late home, following which the funeral party will go to the Pleasant Hill church, five miles in the country, where a service will be held at 2:30. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. Rev. B. W. Pettit of Albia, until recently pastor of the Pleasant Hill church, will conduct the service. Several years ago Mr. Kephart asked the Pleasant Hill pastor to conduct his funeral, and the present arrangement is in accordance with that request, made at a time when Mr. Kephart was seriously ill. Rev. G. L. Eaton, pastor of the local Christian church, will assist in the service. Mr. Kephart was born in Henry County, Iowa, January 14, 1840, a son of John Kephart and Mary Babcock Kephart, and came to Washington county with his father's family when about twenty years of age. His home was on a farm in the Pleasant Hill neighborhood for nearly fifty years, until the family moved to Washington fourteen years ago. He was prominent in the life of that neighborhood and took an especially conspicuous part in the affairs of the Pleasant Hill Christian church, in which he served as Sunday school superintendent and elder for many years. He was one of the leaders in church work all his life and will be greatly missed in local Chris-tian church circles, where he was a great help in carrying forward the work of the congregation. Not only in the church but in everyday affairs were his splendid qualities of mind and heart in evidence. He was square-dealing, industrious, unselfish, and always interested in good works. One of his neighbors paid him a fine compliment this morning when he said that no one could wish for a better neighbor. Mr. Kephart was married in 1860 to Margaret Ann Easton, who died in 1873. To them were born eight children, all of whom are living with the exception of Mrs. Margaret Strum, who died April 22, 1910. The living are: A. E. Kephart, Mrs. Henry Lovelett, R. W. Kephart, Frank Kephart, Charles Kephart, Mrs. Flora Nicholson, and John Henry Kephart, Jr. all of whom live in this community. He was married in 1379 to Mrs. Caroline Thompson Easton, who survives him. To them were born five children, three of whom died in infancy, and a son, William died when seven years of age. Mrs. Ed Mayhew, a daughter, lives in this community. There are also two foster daughters, Mrs. Silas Caldwell of Pleasant Hill and Mrs. Henry Rathmel of Oklahoma, and twenty-four grandchildren and fifteen great grand children. Two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Moore of Omaha and Mrs. Mary Corbin of Clark county, Iowa survive Mr. Kephart. Mr. Kephart had been ill for the last thirteen months but had not been bedfast any of the time. He was troubled with heart disease and complications, but all his life had been an unusually active man and refused to give up when illness came, Even yesterday he sat in his chair and partook of his meals as usual and seemed to be in his customary health. The end came suddenly this morning, although it was not unexpected. When the Washington Christian church was organized Mr. Kephart was very prominent in connection with the congregation and in securing the erection of the church building. He was an elder in the congregation at the time of his death.
