John Jefferson Rogers, son of James and Laura Elizabeth Rogers, was born in Jewell County, Kansas, March 7, 1881 and passed away from this life May 25, 1959, at the age of 78 years 2months and 18 days. John Jefferson Rogers, son of James and Laura Elizabeth Rogers, was born in Jewell County, Kansas, March 7, 1881 and passed away from this life May 25, 1959, at the age of 78 years 2months and 18 days. Death was unexpected by the family, as he had gone about his daily tasks. He was united in marriage with Rose Ward on April 3, 1901. To this union were born four boys and three girls: James of Norwalk,California; Norma Norton of Smith Center; Harvey of Downs; Beulah Post of Caldwell, Idaho; Milton of Esbon and Donald of Lebanon. He spent most of his life in Jewell County, farming near Dentonia, Kansas until 1941. At that time they moved to a farm near Bellaire, Kansas. In 1948 he gave up farming and moved to their present home in Lebanon. Although he came to town to retire, he kept busy with his horses, chickens, cows and garden. Jeff was the kind of person that always wanted to be busy. Everyone knew his cheerful "hello" and even to the last he was busy in his yard. Preceding him in death are his parents, three brothers, two sisters and an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife, six children, three sisters, nieces and nephews and a host of many friends. Funeral services were held at the E. U. B. Church, Esbon, Kansas at 2 p.m., Friday, May 29, 1959 with Rev. Loren Silsby and Rev. D.T. Miller assisting. Singers were Earl Silsby and Carol Kindler with Sharon Dutton as companst. Pallbearers were Claude Thompson, Harold Thompson, Frank Thompson, Kenneth Johanek, Bob Johnson and Harry Ritter.
