He had been in poor health for about two years. There are 18 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Harvey Hoshaw, of Stratford, is a granddaughter. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, at 1 o'clock in the home and in the Methodist church at Stanhope at 2 o'clock. The services were in charge of the Rev. Grigsby, pastor of the church, and G.H. Dick, of Stanhope. Burial was made in the South Marion cemetery. Stanhope Observer March 11, 1937 John Olson, Former Resident, Passes Away John Olson died at his home in Webster City February 27, 1937, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 5 days. He was born in Falin, Sweden January 22nd, 1853 and came to America with his parents in 1868 at the age of 16 years. Landed at Boone, Iowa, on mid-summer day from here they went to Mineral Ridge where they resided for one year and then went from there to Hamilton County in which they lived for about 50 years. At the age of 27 years he was united in marriage to Betty Hanson March 13, 1880. He was one of the early pioneers settling on a farm near Stanhope, Iowa where they lived for 40 years and from there moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota where they resided for about 17 years. Later they moved to Webster City where he passed away. Seven children were born to this union, 3 sons and 4 daughters. Of these, Fred, Leonard and Anna have preceded him in death. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Betty, 3 daughters, Mrs. Eli Neese, Webster City, Iowa, Mrs. Roy Hogan, Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Frank Farr, Rockford, Illinois and one son, Floyd of Owen, Wisconsin and one adopted grandson, Harry at home. Seventeen grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, also many relatives and a host of friends are also grieved of his death. Until about 2 years ago the deceased was in very good health for one of his years. He suffered an ailment from which he never recovered.
