He had been a victim of anemia for many months, which with his advanced age, caused his death. John Reuben Lacox was born in Ripley County, Indiana October 4th, 1952 and departed this life at his home near Nodaway, Iowa, April 2, 1920 at the age of 67 years, 5 months, and 25 days. In the year 1965 he moved with his parents to Clinton, Iowa and about five years later, he moved to Adams County, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life, having lived for 26 years on the farm where he died. He was united in marriage to Amanda McMillen July 1, 1874 and to this union nine children were born, six sons and three daughters, three of whom preceded their father in death. William died at Stites, Idaho, July 6, 1902, Myrtle and Nora died at Nodaway, Iowa August 18, 1908. Of the six surviving children, Elver, Albert, Thomas, John, and Emory, with their families live near the old home place, Miss Mamie, the only daughter lives at home. all were present at their father's bedside where with the devoted wife many anxious days were spent in ministering to their loved one. Besides the wife, six children, eleven grandchildren, and a host of friends, he is survived by three brothers, George of Villisca, Iowa, Thomas and Alva of Hinesdale, Montana; Also two sisters, Sarah of Stites, Idaho and Abbie of Palmer, Nebraska. The deceased was a loving husband and father, finding his greatest interest and enjoyment in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Although he had been a semi-invalid for many years and during the last three months of his life was confined to the house suffering intensely, he bore his cross patiently, always appreciating the many kind deed performed for his comfort. During his last hours he fully realized that he was soon to be called to enter the presence of his Maker. He bade his wife and children an affectionate farewell and expressed his wishes concerning the funeral arrangements. In his death the home loses a beloved guiding hand and the community a most highly respected citizen. Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Snodgrass, pastor of the Christian Church at Clarinda, Iowa and interment made in Methodist Grove cemetery beside his children. The sympathy of their many friends is extended to the bereaved family.
