Secondly, she was married to a Bert Walker DOHERTY and her memorial is posted as VERA EVELYN PENICK DOHERTY OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, July 3, 1951 JOHN ROBERT MARKER John Robert Marker, son of Jesse E. and Lena Mae Marker, was born February 17, 1924, on a farm near Norwood, Iowa, and departed this life instantly due to an automobile accident which occurred near Osceola Friday night, June 15. At the time of his death John was 27 years, three months and 29 days. His early life was spent in the vicinity of Norwood and he attended the Norwood school. He was converted at an early age of 14 years when he knelt at the altar and gave his heart to God, and he was later baptized in water. Two years ago in February, John felt the need of a deeper walk and again dedicated his life to God and has since faithfully attended services. John Bob was married February 17, 1944, to Vera Evelyn Penick. To them were born two children, Richard Lee, age six and Rex Leroy, age three. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his father, Jesse Marker, his mother, Lena Marker, four brothers, Kenneth, near Woodburn, Homer, Jerry and Larry, at home, five sisters, Vera Penick, near Norwood, Frances, Marjorie, Doris and Patsy, at home. A host of other relatives and friends. John Bob was a good husband and devoted father and a kind neighbor. He will be greatly missed in the home and community. The song "It is No Secret," was one of his favorites and was requested by his wife, Vera. Funeral services were held at the Norwood church Monday afternoon, June 18, conducted by Rev. Gladys Martin, of Collins, assisted by Rev. Strange. Music was furnished by Peggy Sones and John Roe. Interment was in the Norwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald Sones, Virgil Roe, Virgil Baker, Gerald Crawford, Willie Osenbaugh and Bennie Snodgrass.
