Son of John Wesley Marker and Julia Melvina Parker OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, September 26, 1972 MARKER Jesse Elvin Marker, son of John Wesley Marker and Julia Parker, was born in Ottercreek Township, Lucas County, Iowa on January 29, 1892. He departed this life after a lingering illness on Sept. 11, 1972, at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital at the age of 80 years, seven months and 13 days. He was united in marriage to Lena Mae Killen on Sept. 25, 1921, and to this union ten children were born. Jesse's life time occupation was farming. His entire life was spent in the Norwood Community with the exception of his military service. He was a World War I Veteran, serving with the 165th Infantry of the Rainbow Division. Jesse was a charter member of the Norwood Assembly of God Community Church where he was converted in 1936. His efforts contributed to the pioneering of this denomination in the Norwood Community. For many years he served as a member of the church board. Surviving are four sons: Kenneth and Larry of Woodburn; Homer of Osceola; and Jerry of Des Moines; five daughters, Vera Penick and Doris Pollitt of Lucas; Marjorie Fleeman of Chariton; Patricia Marker and Frances Marker of Des Moines; three sons-in-law; five daughters-in-law; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Milton of Chariton and Riley of Columbia; one sister, Dolly Pottorff of Fort Scott, Kans., as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his wife, Lena, one son, John Robert Marker, one great-grandson, Anthony Wayne Cox, two brothers; Clinton and Edward and four sisters; Ida Pottorff, Zina Brown, Faye McKinney and Olive Chandler. Jesse was a kind and loving father and after the death of his wife he vary capably served as both mother and father in the home. He was a man strong in faith in his Lord, spending much time reading his Bible and praying. Church attendance was a high priority in his life. He will be greatly missed by his family, church, and neighborhood but his influence will linger with us. Funeral services were conducted at the Norwood Assembly of God Community Church, Wednesday, Sept. 13. Rev. Gladys Martin of Marshalltown, assisted by Rev. Richard Detlefsen of Des Moines, had charge of the services. Music was furnished by Peggy Sones. Interment was in the Norwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Marker, Homer Marker, Jerry Marker, Larry Marker, Richard Marker and Rex Marker.
