Daughter of Robert Killen and Mary Etta Baker OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, July 3, 1951 LENA MAE MARKER Lena Mae Marker, daughter of Mary Etta and Robert Killen, was born in Liberty township, Lucas county, Iowa, on October 23, 1903 and departed this life on Sunday, June 24, 1951, at the Osceola Hospital, due to injuries received in an automobile accident which occurred nine days previous. At the time of her departure to her Heavenly Home she was 47 years, eight months and one day. Lena was untied in marriage September 24, 1921 to Jesse Elvin Marker at Chariton, Iowa. To this union ten children were born, one of whom, John Robert, preceded her in death just nine days earlier. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jesse E. Marker, four sons, Kenneth of near Woodburn, Homer, Jerry Lee and Larry Dean at home, five daughters, Mrs. Vera Penick of near Norwood, Frances, Marjorie, Doris, and Patsy Ann at home. One son-in-law, Robert Penick, two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Vera Marker and Mrs. Helen Marker and eight grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were one brother, John, and two half brothers, James and Charles. Those left to mourn are three brothers, Marshall Killen of Wilmont, Minn., Fletcher Killen of Lacona and Robert Killen of Worthington, Minn. Two sisters, Mrs. Mary Brown of Alliance, Nebr. and Mrs. Linda Gibson of Sterling, South Dakota and two half sisters, Mrs. Maude Keever of Tarkio, Mo., and Mrs. Roxie McNeer of Milo. Also a host of other relatives and friends. Her entire life was spent in the vicinity of Norwood in Lucas county, Iowa. She was converted nearly 15 years ago when she knelt at an old-fashioned altar of prayer and fully yielded her life to God. She later followed the Lord in water baptism and was always faithful to Sunday school and church even when natural circumstances seemed against her. The consecration she made when she gave her heart to God remained until she was called home. As a loving wife and mother she tenderly and untiringly cared for her family without thought of herself. Her sacrificing for others will make her greatly missed by all who knew her. In the last few minutes of her life she requested prayer while the meditation of her heart was in unison, then peacefully fell asleep in the arms of Jesus. One of her favorite songs was, "The Love of God" and was requested by her family. Funeral services were held at the Norwood church, Wednesday afternoon, June 27, conducted by Rev. Gladys Martin of Collins, Iowa, assisted by Rev. Howard Strange of Fort Madison, Iowa. Music was furnished by Peggy Sones and John Roe. Interment was in the Norwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald Sones, Virgil Roe, Bennie Snodgrass, Roy Querry, Glenn Penick and Avery McNeer.
