On Wednesday morning, December 5, 1900, after a long and lingering illness death came to the relief of Joseph H. Tucke an old settler of this city. The cause of his demise was old age. He was born on March 13, 1813 at Eppenburg, Germany, where he was reared to manhood coming to America when he was 29 years of age. In 1845 he came to Clayton county where he located on a farm and has since been a resident of this county. He was a hard working man and built a home for himself and family and secured enough of worldly goods so that in his declining years he was able to rest from his toil He was married in Germany in 1842 and he and his wife crossed the Atlantic ocean to the United States the same year. He leaves a wife, four sons and three daughters besides other relatives to mourn his death. He was a member of the German Lutheran church of this place. The funeral was held Saturday, December 8, 1900, from the Lutheran church, Rev. Janzig being the officiating clergyman, with interment in the City cemetery. Mr. Tucke was a man who enjoyed a large acquaintanceship and had the respect of all who knew him. The PRESS joins with his host of friends and acquaintances in extending sympathy to the surviving members of the family and relatives.
