Joseph Ankeny, son of Isaac and Jennie Ankeny, was born in Stark County, Ohio, November 16, 1878 and passed away August 19, 1957 at the Municipal hospital in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 78. When he was a small child he came with his family to Iowa and his entire life has been spent in this vicinity. He was a coal miner for many years. For the past several years he has been employed by Tylor Brothers. On November 1, 1902, he was united in marriage to Florence Graves. To this union were born severn children, five boys and two girls. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his wife, by two sons, Leslie and Joseph; one daughter, Mary Margaret; also by thee brother, Henry, Charlie, and Milton, and two sisters, Anna and Susan. He is survived by three sons, Isaac, Darwin, and Milton, and one daughter, Helen, all of Villisca, there are also nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
