Joseph Woodford II left a will on 22 March 1746 "Joseph Woodford and his wife...were admitted into ful Communion to partake of the Lords Super April Twenty Second 1705" in the Congregational Church of Simsbury. The Farmington Congregational Church records show that "Joseph Woodford Jun and his wife Lydea...came into ye church by letter dismissive from Symsbury 16 Aug 1707." (typed exactly as was recorded) He inherited all of his father's estate and he is believed to have resided in that part of Farmington which is now Avon. He conveyed to his grandson "now living with me" 54 acres of land in the north division of Farmington adjoining the home lot of his son Joseph. the farm he owned is now a model dairy and tobacco farm owned by Sen. Joseph Alsop, whose wife is a niece of Teddy Roosevelt. This farm adjoins the home of the late Chester Randolph Woodford. The house was razed in 1920. For many years prior to its razing it had served as a school house. He was one of the organizers and prominent members of the Northington church. According to the book "Avon, Connecticut" the Woodfords had been accustomed to walk their fields from the village and had built a small log hut for use as a tool shed. They would often spend the night there. On one occasion they were attacked by Indians. It was before 1705 and probably 1699 that Joseph became a permanent resident. He sold his Farmington home and moved to Nod (Avon) in 1706, joining his son's family.
