Dotson Funeral services for Mrs. J.S. Dotson, who died at her home January 25, 1949, were held Thursday afternoon, January 27, at the Griffith Funeral Home with the Rev. C.L. Moody officiating. A quartet composed of Lester Pilcher, Bernice Harper, Clara Jordan and Louis Cool sang "Ivory Palaces," "We Are Going Down the Valley" and "Good Night and Good Morning," accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Edna Norton. Serving as casket bearers were John Cox, Frank Colwell, Jim McCollough, Cy Carbutt, Lloyd Fletcher, and Marvin Jordan. Flower bearers were Mrs. Sylvia Carbutt, Mrs. Bessie Beardmore, and Mrs. Priscilla Cox. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with Griffith Funeral Home in charge. Julia Lousia Bray, daughter of William and Phoebe Bray, was born Nov. 30, 1879, at Bourbonis, Illinois, and came to Kansas with her parents at the age of two months. On November 24, 1897, she was united in marriage to John Snowden Dotson. To this union three daughters were born: Ruth, now Mrs. Wm. T. Senior of Wichita, Kans.; and Ruby, now Mrs. Paul Haynes, of Denver, Colo.; the other daughter having died at birth. With the exception of the first two months in Illinois and six years in Rooks county, Kansas, Mrs. Dotson spent her life in Cloud county, Kansas. She was for many years a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Glasco, also a member of the Past Noble Grand club. She departed this life at her home in Glasco on January 25, 1949, at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 26 days, her father and mother, her only brother Ed Bray, and one sister, Adda Biven, and the one infant daughter having preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband with whom she had lived for more than 51 years, her two daughters, one grandson, Johnnie Preston Haynes; six sisters, Carrie Spicher, Greeley, Colo.; Clara Bray, Glasco; Myra Ball, Melrose Park, Ill.; Edyth Powell, Elgin, Ill.; Hermania Schmatz, Wheaton, Ill.; and Josephine Lash, Ottawa, Kansas; and other relatives and many friends.
