Packer, retired railroad man, passed away at around 1:30 o'clock of a sudden heart attack. Julius Jacob Frank Packer was born Feb 23, 1881 at Onargo, Illinois, and died at Hooper Nebraska, October 24, 1942, at the age of 61 years, 8 months, and one day. When 2 years of age he moved to Iowa with his parents, coming to Nebraska in 1897 when he started work for the C. and N. W. railway at Newport, an occupation which he followed until his retirement from active service in 1937. He was married December 22, 1909 to Pearl Wetzel of Oakdale and the couple made their home there until 1911. In the spring of that year they moved to Schuyler and Mr. Packer took employment with the C. B. & Q. railroad. He was transferred to Winslow in 1915 and lived there until 2 years after his retirement, moving to their present home in Hooper in 1939. He is survived by his wife and five grown children who now mourn the loss of their husband and father. The sons are Lloyd, until recently of Hooper but now of Bushton, Kansas: Cpl. Roy Packer of Camp Barkeley, Texas, and Dean at home. Two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Nelson of Hooper and Mrs. Hugh Miller, Tekamah. Five grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Florie Kilgore of O'neill. One son died in infancy. Funeral services directed by Wollmer and Warne, were held yesterday morning at 10 o'clock from the Evangelical church at Winslow with student pastor Harry Mumm officiating. The body was then taken to Oakdale for interment in the family lot in the Oakdale cemetery. Music for the services was by Clarence Uhler, Kenneth Sohl, and Clarence Hiebenthal as singers and Mrs. Hiebenthal as accompanist. Pall bearers were Dan and C. F. Fauss, Albert and Harry Marks, Herman Lallman and Henry Hiebenthal. ____________ Oakdale Paper October, 1942 Former Resident Buried Here Burial services were held here Wednesday afternoon for Jake Packer of Hooper. Mr. Packer, who was a resident of this community for many years, died Saturday. Funeral rites were held at Winslow Wednesday morning. He is survived by his wife and five children.
