The Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Rev. James Stark officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, KS. Mr. Packer was born April 6, 1930 in Winslow, NE, the son of Jacob and Flossie Packer. He married Sally Moser in Hooper, NE, June 4, 1945. After living in Nebraska and Kansas, the Packers moved to Farmington in 1972. He was a mechanic with Northern Natural Gas Co. Mr. Packer was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters. He received the Purple Heart and was a prisoner of war. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus in Clay Center, KS; the American Legion, Clifton, KS; and VFW, Clyde, KS. Mr. Packer is survived by his wife, Sally; daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Carolyn) Williams Jr.; Mrs. Don (Linda) Baker, both of Clay Center, KS; Mrs. Robert (Beth) Blackford, Leavenworth, KS; and Annette Packer, Farmington; Son, Monty, Belleville, KS; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Leo (Mildred) Bunnell, Glide, OR; and Mrs. Kenneth (Doris) Nelson, Hooper, NE. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dominick Blackford, and two brothers, Lloyd and Dean.
