Liby Services Tuesday Lavern Clifford Liby, the son of Theodore and Cynthia Johnson Liby, was born Aug. 29, 1918, on the family homestead at Niles, KS. He died June 14, 1991, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, KS, at the age of 72 years. Lavern grew up on the farm and attended school in the Miltonvale area. He graduated from Miltonvale High School. On Jan. 5, 1942, Lavern was married to Phyllis Ramey and three sons and one daughter were born to this union. Lavern served in the US Army during World War II. After the war Lavern returned to the farm for a few years and later worked for Farmway Co-op as a fertilizer plant manager until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and his favorite pastime was coyote hunting. Lavern's children and grandchildren were special to him and he was always there to support them in their school and athletic events. Survivors include three sons, Lonnie of Glasco, Bradley and his wife Jane, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Douglas and wife jan, Udall, KS; one daughter, LaVerna Higle, Glasco; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Albert, Walter, Lloyd, Carl and Harold; and one sister, Rena. Military graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 1991, at the Glasco Cemetery by the Glasco V.F.W. Casket bearers were Keith Higle, David Liby, Gary Liby, Greg Liby, Patrick Liby and Scott Liby. Memorials may be made to the Glasco Ambulance Fund. The Dean Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
