He was 81 years and 13 days old. Born April 23, 1879, the son of Jacob and Eliza Liby, on his father's homestead near Idana, Kansas, he was 17 years old when the family moved to a farm near Niles, Kansas, where he lived several years. He was married to Cynthia Johnston on December 14, 1899, at Minneapolis, Kansas, and farmed near Niles for several years. Seven children came to bless this home: Albert Liby of Morganville, Kans., Walter Liby of Junction City, Kans. Lorena Liby Mudge, who passed away in 1934, Harold E. Liby, who passed away in 1958, Carl Liby of McPherson, Kans., Lloyd Liby of Miltonvale, and Laverne Liby of Glasco. The family moved to a farm near Morganville, Kans. in 1918, then to another farm near Miltonvale, Kans., in 1928, and from there to a farm near Glasco in 1940, and then moving into Glasco in 1945. He was converted in 1923 and joined the United brethren in Christ Church, later transferring his membership to the First Christian Church of Glasco. In January 23, 1955, he was baptised in the Christian Church. He loved and enjoyed his church very much, but due to ill health the past few years he was unable to attend. He was a faithful and loving father and husband, always enjoying his family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter and one son. He is survived by his wife and five sons, 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Frank Liby of Clay Center, Kans., and Ora Liby of Minneapolis; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Cameron of Wakefield, Kans., and a number of nephews and nieces, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Glasco at 2:00 o'clock Monday, May 9, 1960, with Hugh Apple officiating. Music was by Mrs. Duane Wampler, Mrs. Claude Harwood,Mrs. Hugh Apple, and Dr. Claude J. Harwood, accompanied by Mrs. Edw. Berndt at the organ. Pallbearers were Ray Winters, Charles Studt, Walter Wolf, Lowell Nutland, Maurice Carver and Noble Spicher. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with Haley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
