Description	:	Lawrence H. McKern, Sr., age 91, died Monday, December 17, 2018. Born in 1927, on a farm in rural Council Bluffs, Lawrence is the youngest son of Charles and Florence (Jeffers) McKern. After attending rural schools in Council Bluffs, he helped his father farm the "home place" and later worked as a hired man for many local farmers. Born in 1927, on a farm in rural Council Bluffs, Lawrence is the youngest son of Charles and Florence (Jeffers) McKern. After attending rural schools in Council Bluffs, he helped his father farm the "home place" and later worked as a hired man for many local farmers. Lawrence married the love of his life Eleanor Marie Gerst on June 8, 1957. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor McKern in 2009; infant daughter, Florence Jean; daughter, Nancy Roberson; grandson, Mark Roberson; daughter-in-law, Freda McKern; siblings and spouses, Helen (Ted) Stortenbecker, Harold (Arlene) McKern, Everett "Sandy" (Arlene) McKern, Gladys (Wilbur) Feller, Vera (Leonard) Jensen, Charles "Chad" (Dorothy) McKern, and brother-in-law, Delbert Waters. Lawrence is survived by his children, Fred McKern, of Roanoke, Va., Lawrence "Larry" (Mary) McKern, Jr., of Council Bluffs; Pamm (Tim) Killeen, of Papillion, Neb.; Sherri (Dan) Cooper, Patti (Lyman) Jacoba, and Denise McKern, all of Council Bluffs; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Waters; brother-in-law, Dennis (Ann) Gerst; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Sandra Gerst; nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family, Friday, 5 to 7 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Saturday, 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment, Garner Township Cemetery, with a lunch following, at the Masonic Temple. Memorials are suggested to Lewis Township Fire Department or the American Diabetes Foundation.
