Description	:	Lee Silk was the first of 12 children born to John and Minnie Silk. He attended rural schools when young, often riding horses to school. He later attended Griswold High School, and graduated with the class of 1926. Lee sometimes lived with his grandmother Delia in the town of Griswold to make transportation to school easier. Delia was an Irish immigrant, and Lee spoke with a slight Irish brogue for his entire life. Read More	Lee Silk was the first of 12 children born to John and Minnie Silk. He attended rural schools when young, often riding horses to school. He later attended Griswold High School, and graduated with the class of 1926. Lee sometimes lived with his grandmother Delia in the town of Griswold to make transportation to school easier. Delia was an Irish immigrant, and Lee spoke with a slight Irish brogue for his entire life. After the death of his father, when he was 24 years old, Lee and his brothers took over operation of the family farm. Lee was in the Army during World War II, one of 5 of the Silk brothers in the military during the war. Lee served under General Patton with the Third Army in the European Theatre. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart with three clusters. (A Purple Heart is awarded when a soldier is wounded in battle, and a cluster given for each subsequent injury) Lee married Geneva Miller Weston at Maryville, Missouri. He was a lifetime resident of the Griswold-Elliott area, where he was a farmer. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his son, Gary. He was survived by stepson, Bill Weston, and his grandchildren.
