Description	:	Velma Joanne Silk was born southwest of Griswold, IA, in Pottawattamie County on February 25, 1932, the daughter of John Peter and Minnie May (Kemling) Silk. She was the youngest of their 12 children. Velma attended rural schools and graduated from Griswold High School in 1950 as Valedictorian. In July 1951, Velma married her high school sweetheart, Donald Darrell Klein. They were married in Tillamook, Oregon, with their mothers as attendants. She was the youngest of their 12 children. Velma attended rural schools and graduated from Griswold High School in 1950 as Valedictorian. In July 1951, Velma married her high school sweetheart, Donald Darrell Klein. They were married in Tillamook, Oregon, with their mothers as attendants. In 1953, while Don was stationed in Kentucky, Don and Velma lost their first child, Kathryn Jo Klein, who lived for only 5 days, and the mother (Velma) also was critically ill. But they were determined to have a family, and in 1955, to their great joy, they became parents to a son, Joseph Donald, followed by his younger sister, Teresa Lynn in 1958. After Don's retirement from the military, the family returned to the Midwest, settling in Omaha, Nebraska. There, Velma was a bookkeeper for Arrow Printing and then later Regal Printing until her retirement in 1992. Velma's husband Don died September 4, 1987 at age 56. On August 23, 1991, Velma married Joseph "Rusty" Restivo at Offutt Air Force Base, who had been a friend of theirs. Velma was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed many of their activities, including cooking for some of their large gatherings, as she had years of experience in cooking for groups, beginning with her large family. Velma spent many years bravely battling cancer -- which didn't slow her down much! When Velma was 78 years old, she died on a Saturday morning, March 6, 2010 at her home in Omaha. Survivors included her husband Rusty, son Joe Klein and her daughter, Teresa and her family, as well as her step-children and their families. Also surviving are her sister Hazel Snider and her brother Frank Silk both of Griswold, IA. Preceding Velma in death were her parents, her husband Donald, her daughter Kathy Jo Klein in 1953, her stepson Jeffrey on February 26, 2010 and her brothers Harry, Russell, Lee, Elmer, and Harold Silk and her sisters Dorothy Potter, Doris Casey, Marjorie Silk and Norma Wilson.
