Description	:	Dorothy May Potter was born September 19, 1916, at her parent's home Waveland Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Minnie May (Kemling) Silk in a family that would grow to have 12 children. She attended rural schools while young, then graduated from Griswold High School in 1934. Dorothy went on to attend Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. She worked for a neighbor, August Lembke for a time, and also taught school for several years in the rural school system -- but her students said her mind was never on the teaching -- she only wanted... Read More	Dorothy May Potter was born September 19, 1916, at her parent's home Waveland Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Minnie May (Kemling) Silk in a family that would grow to have 12 children. She attended rural schools while young, then graduated from Griswold High School in 1934. Dorothy went on to attend Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. She worked for a neighbor, August Lembke for a time, and also taught school for several years in the rural school system -- but her students said her mind was never on the teaching -- she only wanted to marry Paul Potter. And on July 1, 1943, she did marry Paul Potter at Red Oak. Dorothy's hobbies included working on her family's genealogy, embroidery, and quilting. Many of her nieces and nephews and their children were fortunate to receive gifts of these handcrafted items from their Aunt Dorothy. Dorothy was a faithful member of Our Lay of Grace Catholic Church, belonged to the Alter Society, Church Women United, and the Griswold Care Center Auxiliary. Dorothy and Paul lived on a farm south of Griswold of many years. A few years after Paul's passing in 1971, Dorothy moved into the town of Griswold. When she became ill, she went to Omaha to stay with her sister, Velma while she received medical care there. Dorothy died May 7, 1991, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center after suffering for a time with cancer. Dorothy was survived by her 5 sisters and 4 of her brothers. She was 74 years old.
