Read More	The Times Reporter, New Philadelphia, Ohio, Friday, June 24, 2005~ Lena Lucille Hiller, age 97, of Scio went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston where she had been a resident for the past 1 1/2 years. Born Oct. 6, 1907, in Conotton, she was the daughter of the late John Anson and Serena Belle (Scott) Thompson. When Lena was 4 years old, her family moved to Scio where she received her schooling, graduating from Scio High School in 1925. She then attended Saffords Business College in New Philadelphia. After graduating, she was secretary to the sales manager of Wise McClune Mfg. in New Philadelphia from 1927 to 1931. She started working for Scio Pottery Co. on Feb. 14, 1933, as a plant worker and part-time office worker; from 1936 to 1952, she was secretary to President L. P. Reese. After L. P. Reese's death, his brother, Scott Reese, became president of the company and she became executive secretary and director of company operations, a position she held until her retirement in 1983. She was also treasurer of the Scioramic Museum for 20 years. Lena was a member of the Scio United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women where she had served as a past president. She was also a member of Scio Civic Club, Friends of Scio Branch Library, 11th Club and Order of the Eastern Star, where she had been a past Worthy Matron. Preceding her in death are her husband, Walter "Hap" Hiller, whom she married June 27, 1931, and two brothers, Homer and Harry Thompson. Surviving are a niece, Lois Graham of Reading, Calif.; a great-niece, Patty Goodbar, and a great-nephew, Tom Graham, both of California; and her dearest friends and caregivers of 25 years, Ed and Jane Gilmore of Scio. Service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home in Scio with Rev. Allen Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery at Scio. Friends may call Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
