(Lenora Patterson) Bower, 85, founder of Junior Cathedral guild of St. Peter's procathedral and one of the Capital city's longtime philanthropists, died Sunday at her home, 702 Harrison, following a long illness. She had been hospitalized on several occasions for illness and had been invalided with a broken hip. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at St. Peter's procathedral with the Very Rev. Charles A. Wilson, dean, officiating. Pallbearers will be George Stadler, H. K. Dickinson, D. R. Wallace, W. L. Fitzsimmons, A. T. Hibbard and H. C. Schuyler. Burial will be in Forestvale cemetery with Hagler mortuary in charge. Born Nov. 28, 1868, in Maryland, she arrived in Montana at Fort Benton aboard the river boat 'St. Cloud' in 1884, five years before statehood. In 1902, she was married to Joseph E. Bower, who was one of Montana's foremost sheepmen at the turn of the century. The couple lived in Great Falls until 1904, when they moved to Helena. Mr. Bower died in 1925. Mrs. Bower was vitally interested in St. Peter's procathedral, giving generously to its charities. She founded Junior Cathedral guild 25 years ago and was a member of the senior guild and Chancel guild of the church. For many years she served on the board of directors of St. Peter's hospital and recently provided funds to enclose sun porches. Mrs. Bower had always generously supported the hospital. Another of her favorite interests was the Florence Crittenton Home, which she helped found in Helena. She also aided the Montana Deaconess School. Mrs. Bower had been an officer of the YWCA and was active in its affairs in earlier years. She was once active in Helena Red Cross chapter affairs. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood. Survivors include a son, Joseph E. Bower, Great Falls; a daughter, Marie Bower Clark, Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews in the Great Falls – Fort Benton area.
