Description	:	Lester D. Shaw, 75, of Hiawatha, died Monday morning, January 23, 2012, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital where he had been a patient about 10 days. He was a leap year baby so his age was 18 ¾ . His youthful age as a source of great pride for him. His youthful age as a source of great pride for him. Lester was born February 29, 1935 near Salem, Nebraska, the eldest son of Roy and Erma Chandler Shaw. He attended Falls City schools, later graduating from Falls City High School. He worked for Perry Maze Electrical Service, Shaffer Meat Market, both of Falls City, prior to entering the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Bermuda and Idaho and worked as an electrician working on various aircraft. He flew with the "Hurricane Hunters", of which he was very proud to be a part of. After the service, he worked at the egg plant in Hiawatha prior to starting a long career for Wilde Tool Company, retiring in September 2005, at the age of 70, after 45 years of service. He started in the forging shop, retired as foreman in shipping and receiving. Mr. Shaw was a member of the First Christian Church of Hiawatha. He married Phyllis Rowan, September 9, 1956, at Hiawatha. They made their home at various places across the United States due to his service in the military. They have made Hiawatha their home for many years. She survives. Other survivors include their children: Russell Shaw of Hiawatha, daughter Diane (Sam) Jenkins of Topeka, Travis (Debbie) Shaw of Horton; grandchildren: Weston & Kraig Shaw of Lincoln, NE, Shawn (Rebecca) Beechman of Horton; great-grandchildren: Gracie & Skyler Shaw, Delaney, Dominic, and Samuel Beechman. Also surviving are two brothers: Marvin Shaw of Robinson, Chet (Lois)Shaw of Solomon, KS; two sisters: Joyce VanMeter of Olathe, NE, Loretta Lockard of Auburn, NE; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a younger brother Roy Shaw Jr. Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors a courtesy of the Brown County Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Thursday where the family will meet from 6 until 8 that evening.
