Lillian Dorothy Petersen was born January 15, 1893, in Otter Creek township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Lorenz and Wilhelmina (Suckstorf) Petersen. She was confirmed in the Friedens Evangelical Church in Schleswig, in 1909 and retained her membership in the church her entire life. She married Herbert Henry Bendixen on December 17, 1913, in Schleswig. In the spring of 1914, the family moved to a farm east of Schleswig, where they lived for 12 years. In 1926, the family moved to Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. In 1931, they moved to Erie, Colorado and returned to a farm in Cheyenne Wells in 1932, until they retired in 1934 and moved to Cheyenne Wells. Surviving are her husband, Herbert; one son, Henry Bendixen of Cheyenne Wells, CO; three grandchildren; one brother, John (Amanda) Petersen of Schleswig, IA; three sisters, Emma (Charles) Burk and Amelia (Alex) Miller, both of Schleswig, IA, and Ella (Fred) Petersen of Arthur, IA; one sister-in-law, Loretta Petersen of Battle Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
