Burial will be in Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. Johannes Carl Petersen was born September 24, 1887, in Crawford County, the son of Lorenz and Wilhelmina (Suckstorf) Petersen. He was baptized by the Rev. Schug and confirmed by the Rev. Vonder Au of the Grant Township Lutheran Church. He received his education in the Crawford County schools. He married Amanda Louise Burk on October 14, 1910. The couple farmed the Petersen family farm south of Schleswig for 38 years, until they retired in 1948, and moved to Schleswig. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The community was sadden to learn of his sudden death. Surviving are his wife, Amanda; two sons, Walter (Hazel) Petersen and Cyrenus (Kathleen) Petersen, both of Schleswig; four grandchildren; three sisters, Emma (Charles) Burk and Amelia Miller, both of Schleswig and Ella Petersen of Arthur; and one brother-in-law, Herbert Bendixen of Cheyenne Wells, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lillian Bendixen, one brother, Henry Petersen, one nephew, Loren Petersen and two brothers-in-law, Fred Petersen and Alex Miller.
