Description	:	Lois Maxine (Wilson) Roth was born January 12, 1928 in Laramie, Wyoming to John L and Violet V Wilson. She went home to be with her Savior on March 3, 2012. She lived 84 years, 1 month and 19 days. After earning her certificate she began her teaching... Read More	Lois Maxine (Wilson) Roth was born January 12, 1928 in Laramie, Wyoming to John L and Violet V Wilson. She went home to be with her Savior on March 3, 2012. She lived 84 years, 1 month and 19 days. Lois's father was in construction which led her to live in many different places including Lincoln, Nebraska, Auburn, Nebraska, Topeka, Kansas, Emporia, Kansas and Wichita, Kansas where she graduated from East High School in 1945 and earned a 30 hour teaching certificate from Wichita State in 1-1/2 years. After earning her certificate she began her teaching career in Whitewater, Kansas where she taught 3rd and 4th grades. She taught school for 1 year. During that year Ted Roth was discharged from the U.S. Navy after WWII and returned to his hometown of Whitewater and took an interest in the 3rd and 4th grades! Ted finally convinced Lois to attend the Ice Capades with him in Wichita at the Forum Building. Even though Lois's mother had plans for a large wedding, Ted and Lois decided to elope and were married by a Justice of the Peace in Wichita on December 15, 1946. They eventually made their home in a 2 room apartment in the Lamer Hotel in Whitewater. They purchased 2 lots from Harry Mellor, Ted's uncle on which to build their home. They received a loan through Railroad Building and Loan at 4% in the amount of $3,000.00! They sold everything they could including their new car and all they could salvage for the down payment. The house was built by Batch Lambert and his son, Johnny in 1948 at a cost of $5,512.00. The payments were $14.78 per month. After returning from the Navy, Ted was driving a truck mainly hauling livestock to Wichita. They purchased a 1947 REO tractor and a used Hobbs trailer for $4,200.00. When they made this purchase Ted proudly told Lois it would only take threescore plus ten and with any lick he would llive to make the last payment! They attended the Swiss Church in Whitewater, Lois had been baptized on April 21, 1935 at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Ted and Lois were active members along with their family and Lois eventually became the church organist. While Ted was building the trucking business, Lois was at home raising the first four children. In 1948 Jeannie was born followed by Mike in 1949, Margie in 1950 and John in 1954. Although Ted was on the road much of the time, Lois cared for the children with the help of her parents who were living in Wichita at the time. During this time Lois volunteered at the Whitewater Health Station, ran the book exchange for Whitewater Schools, and maintained her home sewing most of her kids clothing and also doing sewing for the public. Lois became more active in the trucking business and was a great asset helping Ted however she could. In 1959 they needed a larger home and built a new home at 416 N Oak in Whitewater. In 1963, along came Julie followed by Fritzie in 1965 and then Kristie in 1967. Lois not only raised the kids while Ted was on the road but took on many responsibilities including helping with the trucking business. She spent many hours serving at the church as organist. Lois began working as a CNA at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater after her mother became ill and was a resident there. She worked there for 10 years and became a Certified Med Aid. She then went to New Horizons in Valley Center and was in charge of the facility and its residents on the night shift. She did this for 7 years where her love for the mentally and physically challenged led her to participate in many outside activities including the Special Olympics. Lois was talented at many things. She could knit, crochet, sew, cross stitch and made countless handmade items for her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She was never afraid to try a new project and loved making things for people. Lois was a loving and devoted mother and wife who put her family's needs above her own. She loved to travel and she, along with Ted and the 3 younger girls made many trips together in the family motor homes. They made numerous friends during these trips and were members of the Pelican Travelers Motor Home Club in Shreveport, Louisiana. After the kids were all raised, Ted and Lois traveled extensively and enjoyed many, many trips together. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on December 15, 2011. Lois was a kind hearted and compassionate person who loved helping people. She loved baby kittens, raising chow puppies and also various stray and abandoned animals. She never tired of doing things for her family and others. She was a very devoted wife, mother and friend. Lois loved the Lord and made time to read her Bible and do her devotions every day. Even as she faced numerous illnesses later in her life, Lois's faith remained strong. She prayed for her children, grandchildren, family and friends faithfully. She has been and always will be an inspiration to those who knew and loved her. Her unyielding love of the Lord gave her encouragement during days when she was battling severe back trauma, congestive heart failure and many other health issues. Lois's family loved her as much as anyone could love a wife and mother. As she passed from this life to her Heavenly life on March 3rd, 2012, Ted and 7 kids remained by her bedside at Newton Medical Center. She remained selfless and concerned for her family until the end and tried to comfort her family and assure them that she was ready to be with Jesus. She did not want them to be worried or afraid for her....she knew where she was going and was ready to go. Her biggest concern in this life was that her family members and loved ones accepted the Lord Jesus as their Savior so that one day they would all join her in Heaven. Her son, John, made the comment after her death "she taught us how to live and showed us how to die". Mom, we love you! Lois was preceded in death by her parents, John and Violet Wilson. She is survived by her husband Ted Roth, her 7 children, Jeannie, Mike, Margie, John, Julie, Fritzie and Kristie, a step son, Karl, 22 grandkids and 16 great grandkids. She will be missed by many. Funeral service at Church of the Nazarene in Newton, Ks and burial in Whitewater, Ks Cemetery. Memorials established are The Gideons and Caring Hands Humane Society. Arrangements by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
