Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 16th at 4 p.m. at Canton Baptist Church, Rev. Mark Mabry officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. Mrs. Morton was born in Goose Creek Township, Union County, NC, daughter of the late Atlas and Nancy Simpson Tarleton, and widow of the late Joshua J. Morton, Sr. She was very active in church throughout her life. Her memberships included New Hope Baptist Church, Poplin Grove Baptist Church and Canton Baptist Church. At one time, she was Young Peoples Leader of the Stanly Baptist Association. An avid gardener, she always had a yard full of flowers. She was a church pianist and organist, enjoyed traveling and visited Mexico, Israel, Egypt, Jerusalem, Russia and many other places throughout her life. She enjoyed politics and was an avid Republican. She was the first chairman of the Womens Republican Organization of Stanly County. She loved to campaign and especially enjoyed encouraging people to vote. she enjoyed animals and fishing with her husband. Above all, she loved her family very much and had a variety of interests that always involved people. Survivors are her son, Joshua J. Morton, Jr. of Albemarle, NC; grandson, Joshua J. Morton, III of Jacksonville, FL; and granddaughter, Emily Dianne Krause and husband Robert of Rock Hill, SC. The family will meet at the home of her son, Joshua J. Morton, Jr., 25002 NC Hwy., 24/27, Albemarle. Memorials are requested to Canton Baptist Church, 24615 Endy Road, Albemarle, NC 28001, or New Hope Baptist Church, 5928 New Salem Road, Marshville, NC 28103. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is assisting the Morton Family.
