Of Methodist affiliation, she married Eddie on 1-01-1906 in Fairfield Co. & they were married 46 yrs. Their older daughters said in the early 1900s, they used to cross the field & catch the train in North Berne at Collins Chapel to neighboring towns, the Cincinnati & Muskingum Valley RR. They went to church there where many structures were & people gathered, but the cemetery is all that's left due to the loss of the railroad. They later attended Rushville Methodist Church. Eddie & Lou would hitch up the horse & buggy to go to town until they got their first automobile that they called, "the machine". Their daughters said that Eddie's brother, Walter, used to come out & play the fiddle and Eddie played the harmonica & whistled. A lot of people would come to hear them play on a Saturday night. The Foxes had 12 children who grew up in Fairfield Co. & all are buried there. They both were from the Rushcreek Twp. area. Their family farm was known as Rt.#5, Rushcreek Twp., later known as 6910 Ireland Rd. in North Berne. They had a spring over the hill, well water, an outhouse, orchards, grape arbors and a watermelon patch. They raised chickens and butchered hogs. The kids attended College Hill School and then Rushville or Lancaster High School. They went square dancing, played ball & went fishing. They popped popcorn & played the old phonograph. They'd also listen to their old radio shows. Lou loved having company and made people feel welcome by fixing them something to eat or giving the kids something small to take home. She was a good cook, gardened & canned most of their food that filled her pantry on a good year. However, during the depression there were lean years & as they got older with no Social Security so it was hard to make ends meet. She was a good seamstress, made comforters and used feedsacks to make things. She loved geraniums. In the 1990s, Sixth Ave. UM Church in Lancaster was the family church with Mabel, Helen, Gladys, Doid & their children as members. Lou died of pneumonia at home & hypertensive heart after being hospitalized. She & her husband are buried in the Graceland Section next to St. Rt. 22 near nine of their 12 children.
