He died following an appendix operation July 7 in Norway. He was in the hospital 10 weeks. The body was cremated in Norway, brot back to his former home in Fairview by Mrs. Wieneke. Mrs. Wieneke made the return trip to America on the "Oslofjord", a Norwegian ship, arriving in New York Friday, Oct. 13. The route was not logged, none of Mrs. Wieneke's friends were allowed to accompany her to the boat, which left Norway quietly during the night on account of the European war. Mrs. Wieneke thinks the 1st 4 days of the trip was in the North Sea. Mr. & Mrs. W. J. Strandowitz, of Merchantsville, N.J., Mrs. Wieneke's parents, met her in New York. Mrs. Strandowitz accompanied Mrs. Wieneke to Kansas City, where they were met by Mr. & Mrs. C.J. Unkefer, of Fairview. Mrs. Unkefer was Louis Wieneke's sister. Mr. Wieneke was in Russia for 4 years. After his marriage in 1938 the Wienekes lived in Hamburg, Germany, 7 months before moving to Budapest in February. Mr. & Mrs. Wieneke visited in Fairview in April, 1938. Mrs. Wieneke says she has heard more war talk since returning to United States than she ever heard in Europe.
