Description	:	PILOT MOUNTAIN, NC ~ Mabel Jones Shelton, 79, of Pilot Mountain passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2009, from complications of ALS. She was the loving, devoted wife of Ted Shelton. Survivors include her husband, Ted Shelton, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Teddy and Nedra Shelton, of Shoals, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Kent Riddle, of Lenoir, N.C.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Marie "Trixie" Jones and Brady Jones and wife, Helen, of Mt. Airy, Joe Jones and wife, Jane, of Pilot Mountain, Carolyn Game of Bunn, Johnsie Liles of King, and Pete Jones of Southern Pines, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brady and Wilma Jones; and sister, Mary Curtis. Mabel retired from Westinghouse Corporation where she became the company's first female line supervisor. She was a devoted supporter and worker in her church and community. She was a charter member and officer in the Pilot Mountain VFW Ladies' Auxiliary and chaired many projects while also receiving several honors at the state level. For many years, she organized the veterans picnic at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, N.C. Mabel was recently inducted as an honorary member of the Pilot Mountain Ruritans for her work in supporting the club's many community projects. A devoted Sunday school teacher, choir member, and charter member of the Whitaker's Chapel UMW, she received recognition for mission work and as a Lay Leader through the Western NC Conference at Lake Junaluska. The family will receive friends Friday, December 4th, from 6- 8 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain, N.C. The Service will be held at Whitaker's Chapel United Methodist Church, Sunday, December 6th, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to Whitaker's Chapel Church, c/o Spencer Flinchum, 654 Whitaker Chapel Rd. Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or Whitaker's Chapel Church designated for: Ted and Mabel Shelton Scholarship Fund at the same address. Memorials may also go to Hospice & Palliative Care, P.O.
