Description	:	Margie Verle Hampton, the daughter of Earnest Alvin and Blanche Lydia (Soliday) Decker, was born at the home of her parents in Silver City, Iowa on October 2, 1918. Margie was one of five children. She and her brothers Alvin, Robert, Lyle and sister Mae attended the Silver City schools. In 1947, Margie moved to Emerson, IA where she worked at the Emerson Cafe. Read More	Margie Verle Hampton, the daughter of Earnest Alvin and Blanche Lydia (Soliday) Decker, was born at the home of her parents in Silver City, Iowa on October 2, 1918. Margie was one of five children. She and her brothers Alvin, Robert, Lyle and sister Mae attended the Silver City schools. In 1947, Margie moved to Emerson, IA where she worked at the Emerson Cafe. On December 29, 1948 Margie was married to Hobart Percy Hampton and they made their home in Emerson. Hobart died on June 27, 1956. Margie continued to live in Emerson. When her sister Mae died, Margie became a second mother to Dixie and her children. Margie lived her life for others, being the "surrogate mother" to the neighborhood, and always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Margie was a member of the Emerson Baptist Church, the M & A Society of the Baptist Church, and the Sr. Citizen's where she enjoyed quilting with her friends. Margie died on November 2,1998 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, having attained the age 80 years and one month. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hobart; brothers, Alvin, Decker and Lyle Decker, and sister, Mae Hall. She is survived by her brother, Robert Decker of Fremont, CA; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Emerson Baptist Church in Emerson, IA on Wednesday, November 4, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Pries officiating. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald Hall, Jeffrey Hall, Gregory Hall, David Hall, Boyd Elliott and Randy Burchell. Honorary pallbearers were Glen Nelson, Kirk Hascall, Lane Morse and Marion "Bud" Mart Mary Shoop was in charge of the memory book. Pat Vestal was the soloist and Ruth Greenwood was the organist with the music selection of "In The Garden", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". Ushers were Darrell Lewis and David Anderson and Connie Mart and Barb Nelson were the flower attendants. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home of Malvern was in charge of the arrangements.
