He was born east of Essex, May 3, 1918, to Martin N. and Luella Belle (Parker) Almquist and grew up in rural Tarkio Township, Page County, Iowa. JOHNSON Marjorie Elaine (Almquist) Johnson, 82, formerly of Essex, Page County, Iowa, died June 4, 2000, at her home in Shenandoah, Page County, Iowa. He was born east of Essex, May 3, 1918, to Martin N. and Luella Belle (Parker) Almquist and grew up in rural Tarkio Township, Page County, Iowa. She attended High Prairie Country School and graduated from Essex High School in 1935. In 1937, she received her diploma from Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska. On August 25, 1940, she married Russell E. Johnson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex, Iowa. During her career, she worked as a typist, general office clerk, bookkeeper, traffic manager, cashier, and insurance agent. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex, Iowa. She had served as Sunday School director and teacher, served in all various Farm Bureau and Extension committees. Tomorrow's Club, Page County Federated Club, and Page County Pork Producers. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. She was involved in Page County 4-H and was selected to both Honorary and Alumni 4-H membership. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kay Elaine, and an infant son, Charles Robert, ; parents and husband Russell. Survivors include a daughter, Denise Noonan of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law Tom and Lisa Johnson of Essex, Iowa; three grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law Luella Belle and Dan Long of Shenandoah, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were June 8, 2000, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex with the Rev. Gregory Hanneman officiating. Interment was in the Essex Cemetery. Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home of Shenandoah was in charge of arrangements. Information found in The Shenandoah Sentinel, June 18, 2000
