Martin Pontzius, age 1, is found with his parents, James and Margaret, in the 1880 Census for Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa. --------------- Obituary From Ottumwa Daily Courier, May 23, 1938: Martin Poncy, 59, died at his home, 1922 Mabel street, Sunday at 4:45 p.m. He was the son of James Madison and Margaret Ellen Poncy and was born at Wapello July 5, 1878. He had lived in Ottumwa for the last 50 years. He was married to Ida Lee Tomlinson February 5, 1901. Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Edna Knight, Mrs. Lola Ruby and Mrs Margaret Stevens of Ottumwa, and Darlene and Arlene Poncy at home; five sons, Clarence, Harold, Elmer, Oscar and Paul all of Ottumwa; five sisters, Mrs. Rosa Jones, Mrs. Cora Hobbs, Mrs. Nora Thompson, Mrs. Bertha Dewitt and Mrs. Minnie Shepherd of Ottumwa; a brother, John Poncy of Ottumwa, and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a daughter. Services will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Johnson's funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charles Leaming. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Floyd Thompson, Erritt Boyer, Jesse Shepherd, Edward Jones, Lester Hobbs and Charles Poncy.
