Read More	THE TIMES, December 9, 1926, Clay Center, KS The earthly career of Mrs. Richard James ended Friday morning at 1 o'clock when she entered the glories of the heavenly home. Her pathway here led through many years of changing scenes. She was born in England and spent her girlhood days there. After her marriage, she and her husband came to America, and were pioneers in Clay County. Bravely and cheerfully she bore the hardships and toil of the early days and cares of life. Throughout the 85 years hers was a life of loving ministry, and to the end she was ever thoughtful of others. Her life story is this: Mary Jane Dean, eldest daughter of the late Josiah and Jane Mary Dean, was born on February 4, 1841, at Upper Jewry Farm, Parish of Abbey Door, Herefordshire, England, and died at her home in Clay Center, Kansas, December 3, 1926, aged 85 years, 9 months and 29 days. She was united in marriage to Richard James at Thurxton Church, England, by Rev. Jackson in 1865 and to this union eight children were born, all of whom survive their mother. They are William, John, Albert, and Newton James; Mrs. Alice Macy, Mrs. Emma Craig, Mrs. Hattie Ford and Mrs. Mary Sparks all of Clay County. Mrs. James had been in failing health for several months, following an attack of influenza her condition became critical on Saturday the 27th of November and she gradually failed until the end came. All of the children were present at the time of death. Tuesday morning she recognized those in attendance; told them not to worry and repeated the 23rd Psalm. She came to America with her husband in the year 1870, and after a short residence in Junction City, they settled on a homestead in Athelstane Township where they resided more than thirty years. She was converted under the ministry of Rev. Woolpert in 1876 and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. Two years later she became a charter member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Exeter Township. Sh e leaves eight children, 55 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a large circle of friends, who will cherish t5he most pleasant memories of her faithful and consistent Christian life. Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the family home on north Fifth Street, at 10 o'clock and at the Bethany Chapel, the church home of the deceased in Exeter township at 11:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor Rev. V. C. Martin who led in the scripture reading and prayer, assisted by Rev. J. C. Mayos, a lifelong friend of the deceased. Rev. Wallace Carpenter preached the sermon. The pall bearers were the four sons of Mr. James and two nephews, Will Steward and George Tipton. Appropriate hymns were sung by Mrs. Wallace Carpenter and Mrs. Fred Miller with Mrs. Lloyd as pianist. The floral offerings were exquisite in beauty and many in number. Interment was in the Wesleyan cemetery beside her husband.
