Mrs. Melton has been confined to her bed for several years but has continued to be alert mentally and continues to be interested in things about her. She wore a Democrat button on her pillow during the 1964 election and boasts of having always been a Democrat. She stated after the election that she was glad to know that she would not have to die under a Republican administration. She was married at the age of 15 to James Robert Melton and they were the parents of 15 children, seven of whom still live in Chester County. They are Mrs. Mary Brewer, Mrs. Daisy Newsom, Mrs. Ivy Young. Jim Melton, Al Melton, Lee Melton and Parrish Melton. She has 34 grandchildren, 75 great - grandchildren and 41 great -great grandchildren. Longevity of life is not unusual in this family, Mrs. Melton's mother, Mrs. Brock Morris, lived to be 103.
