Brown an early settler of Smith county and a good old character passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Crabb of Topeka, Kansas on last Friday the remains being shipped here for interment. She moved to Smith county with her husband in 1872 and resided here until their removal to Burr Oak in 1891. She recently went down to Topeka where she took treatment of her son-in-law Dr. Crabb at whose home she passed away. Heart trouble was the cause of her death.... She moved to Smith county with her husband in 1872 and resided here until their removal to Burr Oak in 1891. She recently went down to Topeka where she took treatment of her son-in-law Dr. Crabb at whose home she passed away. Heart trouble was the cause of her death. She was a woman of excellent character having lived a true Christian life and a member of the Christian church since the age of 15. She is the mother of fifteen children and was sixty years of age. After a long and useful life she died as she had lived – honored, trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while she lived in the hearts of all who knew her. Her Christian life was bountiful from its beginning to its close and through the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way her faith in God never wavered. Her life is marked with deeds of kindness to those neighbors and friends who have resided by her for these many years and the funeral procession was one of the longest in the history of the Mt. Hope church and cemetery, where the funeral and interment was held, conducted by Percy R. Atkins and Rev. Gale. Much has been taken from this husband and children and the large circle of relatives and friends sweet ties have been severed but much is left. The Christian hope and fadeless memories are still theirs.
