She was the daughter of August Biederstadt and Sophia Maria Spatholt. She emigrated out of Hamburg with her parents and younger brother on the Ship Main and landed in New York on May 26, 1858. On May 19, 1867, she was confirmed in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Florida.
